An explosion that killed three people and wounded nine at a shopping mall in Colombia on Saturday was called a "cowardly terrorist act," by the city's mayor.

The bomb detonated in the Andino shopping mall in Bogota. Authorities  confirmed the device was placed in a toilet bowl in the second-floor women's restroom  according to Reuters.

One of the victims was a 23-year-old French woman who had been volunteering in a poor area of the city, Bogota Mayor Enrique Penalosa told reporters.
