A prominent anti-Putin activist was doused in a green antiseptic Monday by an unknown assailant Monday while on a campaign trip to Siberia.
Alexei Navalny posted a photo of himself on Twitter afterward, likening his appearance to that of the lead character from the movie 'The Mask.'"
"Maybe they thought in the Kremlin that I wouldn't record videos if I have a green face. But I certainly will, as even more people will see me!" Navalny said on his video blog.
Navalny, who made a name for himself through his anti-corruption work, is traveling around Russia, campaigning to run in the country's 2018 presidential election.
This isn't the first time the Russian opposition leader has been targeted during his campaign. He was previously pelted with eggs and fellow activists have had their apartments sealed with filler foam, according toABC News.
Under Russian law, Navalny is forbidden from running for public office because of a previous criminal conviction or fraud. Navalny, however, has called those charges politically motivated and has vowed to appeal them.
In addition to this obstacle, Navalny will be going up against Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is expected to easily win another six-year term. Navalny has gained an impressive internet following since he began investigating some of Putin's close allies.
Navalny said the identity of the man who sprayed the green liquid on him is still unknown.
Otherwise, the anti-Putin activist seems unfazed by the incident.
"My stylish green face perfectly fits the interiors of our headquarters," he added.
