UPDATE March 27, 1:07 p.m.:

A Houston teen battling cancer died just days after finally speaking to her idol, Beyoncé, via FaceTime.

A spokesman for Alief Independent School District confirmed to ABC News that Ebony Banks died early Sunday morning.

Students from Alief Hastings High School gathered later that day for a candlelight vigil to honor Banks, who was a member of the school's color guard and had recently graduated.

The color guard paid tribute to Banks by singing "Halo" by Beyoncé.

Ebony Banks dreamed of meeting her idol Beyoncé. But her battle with a rare form of cancer threatened to make that impossible.

Beyoncé surprised Banks with a FaceTime call Wednesday afternoon after Banks' social media campaign went viral, KHOU reported.

Here's a snippet of Beyoncé's call.

Her friends and classmates campaigned on social media for days to get Beyoncé's attention.

Supporters rallied around the hashtag #EbobMeetsBeyonce, using Ebony's nickname.

Some of her supporters may have had connections.

Naturally, supporters were ecstatic when Beyoncé came through.
