John Warren Geils Jr., founder of the J. Geils Band, died Tuesday in his home in Massachusetts at the age of 71.

Groton police said Geils died of natural causes.

The band was founded in 1967 in Worcester, Massachusetts, and went on to write top hits like "Love Stinks," "Freeze Frame," and "Centerfold." The band, which broke up in 1985 but frequently reunited on and off, was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the fourth time last year but fell short.

Fans paid tribute to Geils, many hailing his Boston roots.

How well do you remember these hit songs from the '90s?
