Amid tension with North Korea, Trump said 'major conflict' is possibleby Circa News

After weeks of increased North Korea aggression, President Trump said on Thursday that a major conflict with the country is possible, but would prefer a diplomatic outcome to the nuclear standoff.

"There is a chance that we could end up having a major, major conflict with North Korea. Absolutely," Trump told Reuters in an Oval Office interview ahead of his 100th day in office on Saturday.

The 45th commander-in-chief also applauded Chinese President Xi Jinping for their efforts to rein in North Korea.

"I believe he is trying very hard," he added. "He certainly doesn’t want to see turmoil and death. He doesn’t want to see it. He is a good man. He is a very good man and I got to know him very well."

Trump also spoke about North Korea's young leader, Kim Jong Un, who had to take over the country after his father died.

"I'm not giving him credit or not giving him credit, I'm just saying that's a very hard thing to do. As to whether or not he's rational, I have no opinion on it. I hope he's rational," he said.
