President Obama will give a farewell address next week in Chicagoby Mike Denison

"Since 2009, we've faced our fair share of challenges, and come through them stronger."

President Obama, in a statement

President Obama announced on Monday his plans to deliver a farewell address from his home city of Chicago on Jan. 10.

This follows a precedent dating back to George Washington, who delivered a farewell address at the end of his last term. Former President George W. Bush also gave a farewell address in 2009.

Here's the full statement. Obama will speak at the McCormick Place Convention Center.

This comes after Obama published a series of tweets outlining his achievements as president.

He touted financial growth...

...clean energy growth...

...foreign policy shifts... changes...

...and his legacy as a whole.
