The final count is in: Clinton won the popular vote by more than 2.8 million votes.

The final votes are in

It's official: More Americans voted for Hillary Clinton than any other losing presidential candidate in U.S. history.

According to the independent, non-partisan Cook Political Report, Clinton’s final tally came in at 65,844,610 votes, compared to Donald Trump’s 62,979,636 -- a difference of 2,864,974. The total number of votes for other candidates was 7,804,213. 

Clinton lost the Electoral College tally -- the only number that really counts -- 227 to 304. 

In response to the popular votes, Donald Trump tweeted this Wednesday.

He said he would have campaigned differently if the election was based on the popular vote.
