Only 36 percent of Americans can find North Korea on a mapby Circa News

North Korea is dominating headlines and garnering more and more attention these days, what with world leaders like President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin weighing in on foreign policy and the hermit kingdom's recent ballistic missile tests.

However, despite more news coverage, it doesn't seem like American citizens actually know too much about Kim Jong Un's country.

In fact, only 36 percent of Americans can identify North Korea on a map, The New York Times reported

The map of guesses has depressed many on social media.

Just under 1,500 people were surveyed. And when asked to identify North Korea, many instead pointed to Afghanistan, India, Iran, Japan, South Korea and Vietnam.

In terms of gender, 45 percent of men were able to correctly identify the country versus just 27 percent of women.

Down partisan lines, 37 percent of Republicans were able to find North Korea versus just 31 percent of Democrats.

Instead of being depressed, others decided to make jokes on the matter.
